Marini staat dit jaar voor een grote uitdaging. Na drie jaar in de kleuren van Valentino Rossi's team, waar hij op een Ducati motor reed, maakt hij de overstap naar een fabrieksteam van Honda. In zijn nieuwe baan zal hij proberen voort te bouwen op vorig seizoen, toen hij twee podiumplaatsen behaalde en achtste werd in het algemeen klassement.
