Le talent sud-africain est ensuite devenu champion de Moto3 (2016) et vice-champion de Moto2 (2019). Après ces résultats, KTM l'a intégré à son équipe d'usine en MotoGP, et dès son troisième départ, il a remporté sa première victoire en MotoGP pour l'écurie. Il a également remporté un triomphe en 2021, mais a connu une saison sans victoire en 2022. L'année dernière, il n'a pas gagné non plus, mais il a été très régulier. Il a remporté un total de 5 podiums et s'est classé quatrième au classement général.
